Oh!!..the agony of having to wrap one’s mind around thoughts of that most beloved of holidays; Christmas. Whilst the mercury soars and the caddis swarm, we have indeed begun to ponder how best to serve our customers through the holiday season.

Our calendar fills quickly during November and December, so if your holiday celebrations include a large family or a business group, please consider us as your winter holiday hosts! Whether your needs include transportation, gifts or simply a delicious meal shared by friends and family, we urge you to plan ahead.

The canyon is magnificent in her winter robes, quiet and far away from the daily bustle.

So as you go about your summer fun this week, pause a moment and consider an Izaak’s Christmas. You won’t be disappointed!!

Just another day in Paradise

It’s easy to take it all for granted when you live in the middle of it. It? Paradise my friends; paradise.
We all work hard at what we do here in Craig and some days the grind is grueling. “Livin’ the dream!” and “Just another day in…” well you know the rest. Both phrases are commonly heard answers to the question “How are you?” Honestly, we are at about the halfway point of our busy season. The river improves daily, the sun continues to warm things up and we’ve all taken a big, deep breath. Just another day in paradise!

Here in our spot on the big blue marble, we boast of big fish and good eats. But rarely do we speak of all the other aspects of Craig that make it so special. Sarcasm could enter stage left at this point, but we’re not going there today.

The climate here is very special. As gardeners, we are able to successfully grow fruit and vegetables in amounts and varieties not seen in many Zone 4 locations.

Positioned as we are along the Central Flyway, the birdwatching opportunities are fantastic every month of the year. Summer’s insect population feeds not only fat fish; warblers, swallows and wrens enjoy the bounty as well; creating an extraordinary birdwatching opportunity!

Our canyon walls are a strong defense against the very worst weather; our nearest neighbors are often surprised that we fare so well through winter storms. Best of all however; are the friends and neighbors who love this little Garden of Eden as much as we do!
Nothing like an itty-bitty Montana town when it comes to community. You just can’t beat a Christmas Eve potluck with 100 of your closest neighbors!

So, if you haven’t ever really spent time here, we suggest you give it a day or two. May turn into a life style; you just never know.
Fish the “Mo”; explore the canyon, catch live music on The Log Jam and dinner at Izaak’s and should you be so inclined, add to the adornments on the front of Uncle Joe’s Craig Bar!! HA! See you soon!!

Have you made plans for the weekend? We’ve got a great line-up out on “The Log Jam” both Saturday and Sunday.

Wylie and the Wild West perform on July 3;(Saturday) afternoon at 2 pm. I’m sure some of you participated in last year’s Fall Fish Fry which evolved into an indoor show. This time around we’ll be offering Pulled Pork Sandwiches and cold draft beer outside. Bring your lawn chairs and your dancing’ shoes!

On July 4; (Sunday), we’ll be open as usual. Live music begins at 8 pm with The Crazy Mountain Billies!! Time for a little bluegrass to get yer toes tapppin’! Headhunter’s Fly Shop and The Trout Shop Cafe will be joining the fun as well. Fireworks at dark on the river and on the bridge. Best little party in Montana!

Many interesting and, at times, alarming stories coming off the river. Quick-thinking guides intervening and helping out. Rescues of a human nature as well as swamped boats.

The Mighty Missouri is beginning to recede a bit,but is still big and fast. Beautiful Downtown Craig is still dry; no floods. Well, maybe one could say a flood of folks out enjoying this wonderful resource, but no water in places it doesn’t belong.

We will be open Saturday and Sunday at Noon. World Cup Soccer on the flat screen; delicious burgers and fries. Great way to spend the afternoon!

Parachute Adam will be warming things up on The Log Jam Saturday night beginning at 8 PM. This newly formed group from Helena is led by local fishing guide and intrepid blogger,Russ Dobrzynski.

The Drake Magazine’s Fly Fishing Film Festival takes off at DUSK on Saturday! The best; did I say best? Fish Porn of the Year. Outdoors under the Big Sky on the banks of the Mighty Mo. What could be bad?? All the outfitters and guides you love in one place!! Don’t miss this!!

The Sunday afternoon music series continues on 6/27 with “The Growlers” onstage at 2 PM. Plenty of cold beer available as well as lunch.

The Crew at Izaak’s is busily preparing all your favorites in addition to special delights just for this weekend. I heard something about Hot Dogs and Rocky Mountain Oysters? See you at Izaak’s!!

P.S.- For the record folks, we don’t use stock photos for our posts. We bring you current, spontaneous shots. For example, the photo below is our friend, Dick Davis. Dick had a little water in his boat today and needed help from our friends at Headhunter’s to empty it out.(understatement!)
What you see here is Moby Duk coming home from an interrupted fishing trip! Be careful out there!

Happy Father’s Day!

Raining again in Beautiful Downtown Craig!! Plenty of sunshine and warm temps all day, but a strong thundershower just passed. I don’t think any of us here have turned on a sprinkler yet this year!

TO ALL THE FATHERS; Whether you be blood kin, or step-in, or just a man who cares, THANKS from all of us for all you do everyday.

Were it not for caring fathers, none of us sitting here would be who we are today. Perhaps he’s the fella who led you to a love of fishing. Maybe your zeal for great food was something you picked up from dear old DAD!

Say Happy Father’s Day like you never have before! Come on out to Izaak’s and celebrate with us!
We recommend reservations any day, but particularly holidays and any time celebration is the order of the day!! As far as were concerned, any day on the Mo is a day worth celebrating.

SEE YOU SOON! The Crew at Izaak’s!
