There they go!!! The idle rail cars that have been stored here in the canyon for the last several years have finally begun to move!!

All is right with the world here in the Missouri River Canyon. Osprey, swallows and our old favorites, the pelicans are back. Izaak’s is open 7 nights a week. Insect hatches are under way on a daily basis!!

We have live music planned for Sunday afternoon, but based on the current weather?? We’ll play the wait and see game til then. Parachute Adam will provide entertainment beginning at 3 pm; weather permitting.

Don’t let a little precipitation stop you from joining us for a delicious meal. Warming soups, creative specials and good friends await at Izaak’s this weekend!!

Mother’s Day is only 10 days away!! Fresh Seafood, Prime Rib, Strawberry Shortcake and best of all, we’re doing all the cooking! Please call for your reservation; show Mom how you really feel!

Kitchen Talk

Kitchen talk as defined in “The Manly Manual”; chapter 43, paragraph 18 is…”the conversation taking place on a nearly seamless continuum from day to day and shift to shift.” This, my friends, is where the magic takes place.

There are no board rooms filled with execs, only passionate foodies doing their best to delight our guests. They brainstorm everyday; caramelizing onions while discussing the fine points of our next holiday menu. Stirring gently simmering stock or nibbling on a warm oatmeal cookie. Unassuming folks just making a living with kitchen talk.

Whether it be a list of tasks on the wall or a brief shower of verbalized ideas, it really doesn’t ever stop! Fortunately, eaves dropping is pretty easy! Here’s the latest:

Mother’s Day 2010 will include Herb Crusted Prime Rib au jus, Fresh Alaskan Halibut, and Chilean Sea Bass. Justin’s Pancetta and Asparagus Pasta with White Wine Cream Sauce rounds out the choices!! Yum!

We will be serving dinner beginning at 1 PM. Please plan to join the staff at Izaak’s for a memorable afternoon celebrating Mom!!

A Bug’s Life

Here in Craig, we spend a lot of time looking at bugs, counting bugs, and of course talking about bugs. And, yes we even take pictures. Certainly there will be those of you that would like to correct us….”please refer to them as insects”.

Sorry, but that just doesn’t do it for us. And while we’re at it, they’re not fly fishermen. We like to refer to our fishy friends as Bugslingers. Way more fun!!

Hatches are under way as we write. Check the fishing report! Crazy good fishing out there!! Looks like it may be a HOT summer, so get your river time in early. Pickins may be a bit slim come August.

Happily, the pickins at Izaak’s will go on til October. Maybe in the form of Bluegrass? Great food, frosty beer, live music. Can’t promise there won’t be a caddis or two flitting over your table as you dine; just think of them as one of nature’s finest miracles.

Check out one of our favorite websites: www.bugslinger.com. Cool stuff for the fishy folks in your life!! Tight lines!!

Spring Fever…

What else can we say? The weather is beautiful and for the first time in several years, our region has not suffered an early spring cold snap. Remember this time last year? Looked something like this?

The year before, we missed out on the snow, but instead enjoyed a wave of arctic air that browned our lilacs and froze the needles right off our conifers.

This spring, however is shaping up into a spectacular prelude to a most memorable summer!!

The crew at Izaak’s has already made plans for our entry in The Fourth Annual BBQ Cook-off as well as hosting live music during the Caddis Festival on May 15.

The Drake Fly Fishing Film Festival comes to Craig as an outdoor show on June 26. Sponsored by our neighbors, Headhunters Fly Shop, this event promises to be one of our finest!!

July is still open on the calendar. Independence Day will see lots of kids and dogs, no doubt. Floating fireworks display already in the works!!

August seems perfect for a Brewfest! With music by blues performer Johnny Rawls and delicious vittles from our kitchen, you won’t even notice the heat.

We have entertainment on tap most Sundays through September. Check our “Entertainment” page for a current calendar of music and fun.

See you on “The log Jam!”
