Smokey Bluez featuring Johnny Houle with Special Guest Jeanine London

Check out the Article from the Great Falls New Tribune about this weeks Tuesday Night entertainment @ Izaak’s. Thanks to Pete Swanson of the Tribune and his Out on the Town Column.

Izaak’s in Craig kicks off its summer live music series on Tuesday, June 14, with Smokey Bluez from Great Falls. The group appears on the bar and restaurant’s Log Jam outdoor stage and deck from 7 to 11 p.m.

French Creek author, singer and songwriter Jeanine London plays between Smokey Bluez sets. She performs original folk music as well as request-only cover music. London has released an album of original music, titled “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.”

The Smokey Bluez core band features Lisa Michell on acoustic guitar and vocals, John Houle on lead guitar and John Jr. Gladue on bass and vocals performing a blend of danceable rock and blues. Artists covered include the Allman Brothers, Stevie Nicks, Elvin Bishop, Bad Company, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Bonnie Raitt.

Smokey Bluez members are veteran area musicians. Michell and Houle have worked together in the Rock Bottom Band and the Fortune Hunters. Gladue is a former member of Red Eye Express.

Meanwhile, Jan Gearhart has taken over booking musical acts at Izaak’s for 2011 summer season. She says she hopes to feature outdoor live music at the popular Missouri Canyon watering hole and eatery at least twice a month on either weekday or weekend afternoons and nights. Gearhart stresses that a wide variety of musical styles will be featured with a primary focus on roots and Americana.

“I’d like to be able to try some unknowns in the area,” she says, adding the venue could serve as a showcase for new or obscure musical acts. “I’d also like to see us build up to something bigger towards the end of the season.”

Gearhart worked in corporate sales for the annual Rockin’ the Rivers outdoor music festival from 2001 to 2006. She also organized the David Allan Coe show at the Beacon Ice House in 2007.

Seattle commercial fisherman Pat Hunter purchased Izaak’s in 2003 after a visit to the popular fishing and recreation area surrounding Craig. Hunter spends much of the summer months fishing in Alaska, so he recently recruited chef John Winders as the new manager and co-owner of the establishment. A graduate of the New England Culinary Institute, Winders has served as executive chef in restaurants in Utah, Ohio, Alaska and North Carolina. For the past decade, he owned and operated the Spotted Dog Creamery in Salt Lake City.
